Dr. Natasha Campbell, Ed.D. is an educator, school founder, and organizational strategist with more than twenty-five years of experience building institutions for communities the system was not designed to serve. She founded Summit Academy Charter School in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood — a college preparatory public charter school whose scholars have gone on to become the first in their families to earn college degrees — and Ready Start Go LLC, a consulting firm providing capacity-building, grant writing, and strategic planning support to nonprofits, schools, and community-based organizations.
The daughter of Jamaican-born medical providers who taught her to read the speech, the vote, and the donor report in sequence — and to always ask who benefits from us believing what we believe — Dr. Campbell has spent her career applying that method inside the institutions she has built and led. She understands, from the inside, what it costs to ask the structural question in rooms not designed to accommodate it, and what it produces when enough people ask it together.
Same Damn Bird is the most extended version of that question she has ever attempted.
Together, these three books explore leadership, reflection, and the courage to challenge the systems around us. From building effective school teams, to examining how personal experiences shape our lives, to questioning the political structures that keep Americans divided, each book encourages readers to look deeper, think differently, and use what they discover to create meaningful change.
